Graduate Study:

  • The applicant must be accepted or enrolled in a graduate program in communication sciences and disorders within the United States. Clinical doctoral programs in audiology or master’s programs in speech-language pathology must be accredited by, or in candidacy status from, the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. This accreditation requirement does not apply to research doctoral programs.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in full-time study for the entire academic year.

Academic and Personal Merit:

To apply, the candidate must provide official transcripts of their academic coursework, credits, grades, and grade point average (GPA) from their university. Moreover, they are required to submit three confidential letters of recommendation from academic faculty and work references. The letter requirements vary based on the applicant’s situation, with at least two letters being from academic faculty. 

 

If the applicant is currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, they must have at least two letters from academic faculty at their current college or university. If the applicant is currently enrolled in a graduate program, they must have at least two letters from academic faculty, which can be from their current or previous college or university program. 

 

However, if the applicant is returning to school from the workforce, they can have letters from colleagues (with at least one supervisor) at their current place of employment and references familiar with their academic history and potential.

Prior Funding:

  • The applicant should not have previously received a scholarship from the ASH Foundation.

To apply for the scholarship, applicants must fill out the online Student Information Form and submit the following required documents:

  • A letter of application in PDF format, with a maximum length of two pages, 12-point font, and single-spaced.
  • A letter of acceptance or statement of good standing in PDF format.
  • A transcript from their current university in PDF format.
  • An essay in PDF format, with a maximum length of 1,500 words, not including references. The essay should be in 12-point font and single-spaced.
  • Three confidential letters of recommendation in PDF format.
